The USC Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a full-time Grossing Technician who will be responsible for performing technical procedures and tasks supporting the day-to-day operations of the Dermatopathology Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In addition, he/she will provide technical expertise to ensure proper functioning of the division for optimal quality, efficiency, productivity and turn-around-times.
The incumbent will:
- Receive, accession and triage patient specimens, blocks and slides.
- Dissects and prepares non-complex dermatopathology surgical specimens and surgical biopsy specimens.
- Performs specialized procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification
- Monitor incoming phone inquiries and requests.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
- Maintain and organizes laboratory supplies. Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. Hourly Range:
The hourly rate range for this position is $29.62 - $37.51. Minimum Education: Associate's degree Specialized/technical training Minimum Experience: 1 year Minimum Field of Expertise: An earned associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR Education/training equivalent to the preceding that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination. Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree Preferred Experience: 2 years. Dermatopathology experience highly preferred
